Our lectures take place over Zoom. Daniel Barnett will talk for about an hour on the topic of the day (there are 14 lectures over the seven weeks of the course – see timetable). You’ll have a workbook to help you follow the course. At the end of the lecture, Daniel will answer questions for another hour or so. You’ll type your questions into a Q&A box (anonymously, if you prefer) and Daniel will read them out and answer them. You won’t be able to activate your camera or microphone during the lectures, which means nobody will be able to see or hear you.
There are seven tutorials, held every Thursday during the course for Premium and Diamond members (tutorials are not available as part of the Essential package). You’ll be in a small Zoom group of between 8 and 12 fellow students, and will be sent a short case study a few days in advance which covers the topics from that week’s lectures. During the tutorial, the tutor will guide you through the case study, encouraging discussion and explaining how the problem would be resolved in real life. It’s also your opportunity to ask questions about the course, and employment law generally, in a smaller and less formal environment than the main lectures. Unlike the lectures, your colleagues in the tutorial will be able to see and hear you if you choose to have your camera on. After the tutorial, we’ll send you a model answer to the case study for you to keep.
There are four Coaching Calls, just for Diamond members, taking place with Daniel Barnett. You get to choose what you want to do and see in those calls. You can discuss employment law. But you don’t have to – you can ask Daniel anything. For example, you can ask Daniel for a behind the scenes tour of how he run his business and his practice, or how he prepares a cross-examination of a witness, or his method for writing books. It’s totally up to you.
We've got three packages you choose from: Essential, Premium and Diamond. You can view the full details and prices here: here.
There are four Diamond packages available, due to the personal time Daniel will invest in the Diamond members. We are planning for 20 Premium packages (two tutorial groups of ten people each) and 20 Essential packages.
Members of the HR Inner Circle receive a 40% discount; the voucher code is in your monthly magazine, in our Facebook discussion group, and on the HR Inner Circle website in the members’ area. If you genuinely cannot afford the course, we offer six scholarships. Otherwise, there is no discount available.
All the sessions (lectures, tutorials and diamond coaching calls) take place on Zoom.
You can watch the recordings on your phone. If you want to join in a ‘live’ session, you can use your phone as long as you’ve installed the Zoom app. It’s very easy; we can help with you it if you’re not sure how.

It depends. If you’re on the Essential Package, it won’t make any difference. You can watch the recordings of the modules in your own time, when you’re back, and learn at your own pace. If you’re on the Premium or Diamond Package, you won’t be able to join us for the live tutorials, but you’ll still get access to the case studies. We’ll also send you written model answers, meaning that you’ll still get much of the value out of the tutorials. The six week window for submitting your assessments means a holiday won’t affect your ability to take part in the assessment process.
